Winning Streak Ends For Mystics
BOSTON, MA - It was an inevitable outcome. When two undefeated squads take the field, only one can remain undefeated. Unfortunately for the Mystics, it was Boston who took that honor. It was a grueling back and forth defensive match up between the top two teams in New England. The Mystics were able to shut down Boston's initial attack, but a penalty in range of the posts would give Boston first blood and an early lead. This would also be the only score of the first half.  Late into the second half Boston let loose with a kick down field which was recovered for a try that would put the game out of reach for the Mystics.  Mystic River finished the season with a 6-1 record and despite the loss, will enter the playoffs as the number one seed in New England.

Old Boys Draw Against Providence
PINE BANKS - On a day which would see three action packed rugby matches take place at the Banks, the Mystic Old Boys took the field against the Providence Old Cocks. The Mystics were able to keep Providence on the defensive throughout much of the match, setting up some great rugby to show the younger generations that they still had the stuff. Tries by Stefan and Whitey would keep the Gray Gulls in the game, however the score would remain level at matches end. The Mystic Old Boys are undefeated this season with a record of 4-1-0.

Mystics Blank 'Hounds For Win No. 5
PINE BANKS - As the battle for the top teams in New England intensifies, the Mystics showed no quarter as they put away the Boston Irish Wolfhounds (1-4) with a decisive victory in Malden. Constant, hammering pressure from forwards and backs kept the 'Hounds on their heels and the Mystics found themselves up 17-0 at the half. The second half proved no different as the Mystics kept up their relentlessness on both sides of the ball, totally shutting down the opposition and touching down another five unanswered tries to secure another win.  Bouncing back from last weeks nail-biting loss, the Mystic 2nd XV were able to edge past a hungry Wolfhound side.

Mystic Winning Streak Continues

NEW HAVEN, CT - Week four of the 2007 Fall season found the undefeated Mystic River team traveling to Connecticut to face the 2006 NERFU D1 Champions, New Haven. Defense played a key role for both sides as they battled up and down the pitch, keeping the score at 3-0 in Old Black's favor at the half. The second half proved to be much the same as both teams struggled to break through the opposition, until a Mystic offensive charge was able to penetrate for two unanswered Mystic tries and win number four. Next, the Mystic Second XV's took the field in a match that pitted together two undefeated second sides. It proved to be a another grueling, tooth and nail battle, with neither side giving an inch without a fight. With only 15 minutes to play, the slight Mystic lead was broken by two unanswered tries, giving New Haven the win.

3rd Straight Win for Mystics

MANCHESTER, NH - Despite being down 14-10 at half time, the Mystics were able to keep the ball close and drive at the line repeatedly in the second half. Amoskeag's defense held up well but eventually the Mystics were able to score. The Mystics finally took the lead 25-22 with six minutes left to play. Mystic winger Adnan Kawuma scored a 50 meter break away try off of a loose ball on the final play of the match to pad the final score and collect the bonus point. Later that day, the Mystic 2nd XV also extended their own winning streak to three. Constant pressure shattered Amokskeag's defenses, producing multiple tries for the young and blood-thirsty Mystic side. Mystic Summer Youth Rugby

We are pleased to announce our 2nd season of Mystic Youth Rugby at Pine Banks Park. The program runs Thursday nights from June 21 – July 26 (from 7pm-8:30pm). Last years program was a major success as we had over 25 kids aged 6-14 wearing blue and playing rugby! We play a form of non-contact rugby based on American Flag Rugby rules. It is similar to touch rugby. It is a great opportunity for boys and girls aged 6-14 to learn basic rugby skills while running around and having fun. The season ended with a Jamboree where over 80 kids participated in a number of matches. Please forward this information to family and friends with children that may be interested. Please also let Dave Rudzinsky know if you would like to participate or help out.

Mystics Make Statement at NERFU Cup

NEWPORT, RI - The Mystic River Boys knew the NERFU tournament would be a step up from their Spring schedule, but solid preparations set the stage for their long awaited showcase. Easily the youngest overall team in Division I, the Blue were hungry from the get-go as they faced #2 ranked Amoskeag in the first match. While the forwards dominated possession of the pill, Vice Captain Jamie Green exploded out of the backline for multiple tries on the day; he was clearly a stand out. Amoskeag fell to the Mystics, 14-3.

Later, in the Semi-finals, the Mystics gave the crowd a show as they questioned and challenged the Wolfhounds title as the elite team in New England. The dominant Mystic forwards, for the first time, had met an equally powerful pack. While the Mystic backs outmatched their Green and Yellow opposites and scored under the posts, the "super-league" savvy forwards were able to take advantage of good field position and sneak by the Mystic defense. Even though the Blue fell to the Wolfhounds 17-7 in a game that was close to the very end, their efforts were rewarded in knowing that they matched up very well against the top competition.

Mystic Blue Drowns Old Gold

PINE BANKS - The First XV took the field this past Saturday and wasted no time as they stormed down the pitch and scored on their first possession. For the first 20 minutes, the rugged Mystic forwards were too much for the Old Gold Defenders as they rarely missed the gain line and dominated on attack. Tactical kicking and solid defense by the Mystic backline also disrupted any of Old Gold's momentum. While Old Gold had been within 5 meters of a try on a couple occasions the relentless Mystic tacklers would not let them in. The match finished, Mystic 32 - Old Gold 0.

Mystics Open Strong

PINE BANKS - The Mystics came out strong this past Saturday against a playoff bound Worcester side. The tough, scrappy forwards lead the charge, man-handling the opposition. This outright dominance in and around the rucks forced our opponents to tighten up their defense and the Mystic backline was given room to showcase their talent scoring multiple tries on the outside for a final tally of 42-14. This was an important game, but the taste of victory has only sparked a deeper hunger in the Blue for another win.

Mystics Suffer Another Disappointing Loss

CANTON, MA - The Boston Irish Wolfhounds got back to their winning ways at the weekend with a 34-16 win over Mystic River. The game was played in perfect Fall conditions at the Irish Cultural Center in Canton, MA. The Wolfhounds jumped out to a 17-6 halftime lead, with tries by prop Chris Wheeler (2), and fullback Ian Flanagan. Flanagan in particular caused problems for the Mystic defense, using the freedom of the full back position to launch a number of long runs. One of the tries was converted by Shane Moore for the Wolfhounds. Mystic countered with two penalties by center Geordie Miliotis to round out the first half scoring.

The second half was an entertaining spectacle, as both teams upped the intensity significantly. Another try from Flanagan stretched the Wolfhounds lead. Mystics gradually worked their way back into the game, with outhalf Glynn MacKenzie crashing over from short range. The Wolfhounds regrouped and closed out the scoring with a try from replacement center Treeve Currie to leave the final score at 34-16 to the Wolfhounds.
