The Mystic Girls U19 team traveled to Clinton, CT this past Sunday for the Shoreline Tournament, coming away with their first win of the fall against Morris Rugby. Mystic entered two sides for the tournament — Mystic Blue (competitive) and Mystic White (developmental) — with roster support from Aspetuck/Simsbury RFC.
Mystic White faced a tough schedule, falling in three competitive matches to Greenwich 2, Play Rugby NYC, and the Ridge/Trumbull/Fairfield/Shoreline (RTFS) side. The day was a milestone for Estelle Gallagher and Katherine Wong, who made their Mystic and 7s debuts. Field, Wong, and Lake served as team captains, providing leadership and composure throughout the day.
Meanwhile, Mystic Blue, led by senior captain Sadie Hershberger, went undefeated in pool play — defeating Greenwich 1, tying Aspetuck, and edging out powerhouse Morris to finish top of their group.
On defense, Madeline Church and Savannah Glover led the tackling effort, while Niall Cahalane chased down multiple line breaks. Offensively, Hershberger, Rebecca Christensen, and Cahalane drove Mystic’s scoring. Conversions proved decisive, with Christensen going 4 for 4 on the day and executing a pinpoint restart that connected directly with Hershberger for a try.
