Mystic River u19 Boys reclaimed the Newport 7s Varsity Championship with a 26-17 win over defending champs Boston Rugby Club. The Varsity boys, led by veteran Colin Doyle, took a young team to the finals with wins over Boston Irish Wolfhounds, New England Rugby Club (NERC), and Worcester. Boston was looking like the team to beat all tournament, and Mystic had their work cut out for them in the final. After a back and forth start, Elias Andors scored right before halftime to give a narrow 14-12 lead. The boys played a clinical 2nd half, dominating time of possession, containing Boston on defense, and scoring a 3rd try under the posts. Boston scored with under a minute left to close Mystic's lead to just 4 points. With the game on the line and time to kill, Doyle received the kickoff, spotted a gap, and took it the length of the field to secure the victory! Mystic's first Boys Varsity Cup in Newport since its 2017-2023 streak! JV Boys also played well with a 3rd place finish, culminating with a 35-0 try-fest over the Wolfhounds. Great start to the summer for both boys' teams!
