Summer Rugby Getting Underway

MALDEN, MA – The Mystic Summer Rugby program is starting to get rolling. The main summer rugby program for men’s and college players is kicking off with a 15s tour to Montreal on May 31st, where the Mystics will be sending a college-focused side up to play against a regional representative side on June 1st. As soon as the tour completes, the side will be moving into 7’s mode, where we aim to have both a college side and a men’s side entered into various tournaments. More details for the 7’s and summer program can be found at: www.mysticrugby.com/summer/.

The U19, and Youth Rugby programs are also close to getting underway, and registration is already open in preparation for practices in early June. The program will be expanding to include contact at the U15 level, which will hopefully drive more interest in the program. Details on all the youth rugby on offer can be found at www.mysticrugby.com/youth/. We are always looking for help with coaching and organising, so if you think you might have a few moments to spare this summer, please get in touch with Dave Rudzinsky. (A huge thanks are due to Buzzy for making the youth program such a continuing success!)

Mystic Nation Victorious!

MALDEN, MA – After two weeks on the road, this past Saturday saw a great outing for the Mystics back at Pine Banks. It was a gloriously sunny day and enough Mystics were present to have two full squads of fifteen along with some much-needed subs. Despite early mention of “Six Packs vs Bad Backs”, wiser heads managed to convince the young bucks that it would be unfair to put all the experience on one side of the pitch, so the Mystic Blue and Mystic White teams included players from multiple Mystic eras. The game involved a lot of back and forth with many long runs and deep breaths on both sides. Even more surprisingly, the game was delicately poised with only a minute left to play: Mystic White were up by two points and the Mystic Blues could almost taste a come-back victory. The Blues managed to snatch the ball away from the Whites, but almost immediately spilled it back again, giving the Whites a chance to sneak in for the game-winning try to win 48-39.

The afternoon closed off with a cookout at the East Side, where the large contingent of players and supporters enjoyed a great barbecue put on by Chris O’Donnell. It made for a wonderful close to a day where Mystic Nation undoubtedly came out on top, even if the Mystic Blues are still mumbling about their loss.

Matches Against the Wolfhounds Cancelled

MALDEN, MA – The Mystics spring season opener against the Wolfhounds has been cancelled due to the amount of snow on the pitch this week. We are currently looking to reschedule our Briar Cup matchup for later in the spring, but we haven’t identified a suitable date at this time. Hopefully the weather will improve over the next week and we can get the spring season underway next weekend against Middlesex.

Mystics Kick Off Spring with a TOUR

SAVANNAH, GA – The Mystics are looking to kick off their spring season in style this weekend at the annual Saint Patrick’s Day Rugby Tournament in Savannah. Admittedly, the tournament is a week before the big day this year but that isn’t likely to hold the Mystics back. The leading contingent of Mystics are already scouting out Savannah’s highlights before the stragglers arrive tomorrow.

The tournament will be the first real chance for the boys to get outside and while the tour may not produce the best rugby, the team needs to keep in mind the home opener against the Wolfhounds in two weeks’ time.
