USA Club 7s Championships

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – In the opening day of the USA Rugby Club 7s Championship Series, Mystic River had Atlanta deadlocked  10-10 on two speedy tries by Chris Tofte and Dimitri Efthimiou. But costly mistakes were the story in the second half as the Mystics fell 10-29.

Tournament favorites, the Chicago Lions, bested the Mystics 7-38 in game two with the only try coming from Karl Darragh.

Mystic River bounced back in the final game of pool play, with a strong win over Belmont Shore 27-10 and advance to the plate round on Sunday.

Mystics 7s Headed to National Sweet 16

The Mystic 7s squad travels to San Francisco tomorrow to compete in the USA Rugby 7s National Sweet 16 tournament. The Mystics are seeded #14 in their first ever participation in the national 7s competition and will be looking to make some noise this weekend.

Al Baker Memorial Service This Saturday

A service for friends and family of Al Baker will be held on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at Charlemont Federated Church at 175 Main Street in Charlemont, MA at 2 p.m. Reception to follow.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to: University of Massachusetts Rugby Program, RSO Box 100 Student Union, Amherst, MA 01003.

Mystics Win Middlesex 7s

AMESBURY, MA – In their final warmup before the USA Rugby 7s national championships, the Mystics were able to cruise to victory at the Middlesex 7s, beating the hosts in the final 38-5 where they allowed their only try scored against them in five games on the day.
