Summer Youth Rugby Back for 6th Season!

MALDEN, MA – Mystic River Rugby Club is happy to announce our 6th season of Mystic Youth Rugby at Pine Banks Park!

Registration will be held on May 31, June 7 and June 9 at Pine Banks Park 6:30pm – 8:00pm.

Our U-14 summer flag rugby program and U-19 boys program continue to grow and last summer we had over 65 boys and girls play Rookie Flag Rugby. We also had over 35 kids play U-19 with the following highlights: 1st ever MYRO (Mass Youth Rugby) U-19 State Champions, Seacoast 7s U-19 Champions and a recent tour to IRELAND!!

Fleet-footed Palmer Into DI Semis

MANASSAS, VA – Palmer College may be young, but they handled Mystic River with poise during the DI club championship quarterfinals, producing a 41-21 victory and bid to the Final Four.

Mystic’s defense could not contain the pace and athleticism of the Palmer backs, especially with halfbacks Luke Stringer and Chad London directing traffic and player/coach Jarod Selby loading from fullback. The scoring began minutes after kickoff when inside center Mike Junk ran on to a pop pass from the ruck and barreled his way over the try line, a score that the flyhalf, London, converted, 7-0.

Mystic River Advances to DI Quarters

MANASSAS, VA – The Mystic River v Chicago Lions’ Round of 16 match during the men’s DI club championship was closer than the 41-19 score suggests, but it’s still an intimidating figure for its quarterfinal opponent, Palmer College, to cope with.

“I was definitely worried,” Mystic River coach Nick Murphy said. “Chicago is a good, young team, and they can move the ball from anywhere. It wasn’t until the second half when we scored two tries within the first four minutes that we felt more comfortable.”

The first half was patchy for Mystic River – phases of solid play marred by some sloppy execution. Murphy and assistant coach Jake Sprague focused the team at half, insisting that the defense needed to tighten up and arm-tackling needed to cease.
