Mystic U19s Kick Off With a Win over Boston

The Mystic River U19 Gulls started their summer with a solid 15-14 victory over Boston. Both teams showed up at Pine Banks expecting a friendly game of sevens, but the coaches surprised them with a full game of 15s to get the summer started.

Captain Liam Smith got the Mystics backs flowing early in the match, taking the Mystics into an early 10-0 lead through unconverted tries from Sam Swain of St. John’s Prep and Jaelin Barros Paterson of Belmont High. Boston then took full advantage of a penalty in the Mystic half to score a converted try and close the gap to 7-10.

Mid-way through the second half, Sam Sutera of St. John’s Prep was instrumental in putting Sam Hough, his St. John’s Prep team mate, through for what turned out to be the winning try. As the game drew to a close, Boston scored a second converted try to pull them within one point, but didn’t have enough time to change the game’s outcome.

The Gulls will continue their summer campaign at the Newport 10s on June 29th.
